Machias, Maine, August, 2020,...Now ripe and ready to harvest. The down east Maine blueberry barrens are now a mix of tapestry like colors rich with the succulent fruit of the wild low bush blueberry.
The state has some 44,000 acres of wild blueberries and relies on the berries for about $250 million per year in economic value. Maine is the biggest producer of wild blueberries in the country.
