Description
This image was taken at Little River Lobster Company located in Cutler Harbor, Maine.
Pictured is the owner at the scale and an assistant, they are sorting and weighing the day's lobster catch right off the fisherman's boat.
As lobsters are unloaded they are sorted by size into crates (90 pounds per crate) lids are locked closed and the crates tied together and lowered into the water in a daisy chain as can be seen in the background, where they remain afloat assuring freshness till sold and shipped to buyers.
This particular boat unloaded 14 crates (1260 pounds for that day's catch).
They also sell bait to the lobsterman for the next days fishing at sea.
The public can also come down to the docks and buy individual lobsters for personal consumption.
Just a little insight into some of what transpires behind the scene here in down east Maine.
