Description
Now but a memory here in down east Maine,...the former McCurdy's Smokehouse, pickling and brining shed which was situated along Lubec narrows waterway was a long standing historic landmark.
On January 4, 2018 a coastal blizzard took down this 110 year old waterfront landmark which was a tourist destination for almost as many years as it stood.
Two adjacent buildings survived the devastating storm and are all that remains at this historic smoked herring processing factory location.
McCurdy's Smokehouse, pickling and brining shed are on the National Registry of Historic Places, once part of the immense sardine and smoked herring industry heyday that lasted from the 1880's well into the 1980's here in Lubec, Maine
In the distance is Mulholland Point Lighthouse just across Lubec narrows on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada in this Christmas seasonal scenic landscape.
As photographers we are sometimes unknowingly historians capturing
the last fleeting images of subjects now lost to obscurity.
