Description
"Coastal Maine Milky Way Starscape"
One-third of the world’s population cannot see the Milky Way,...four out of five people in the USA have never seen the Milky Way due to their view being obstructed by city light pollution where they live.
On the other hand, coastal down east Maine has the unique distinction of having the least light pollution on the entire East Coast of the United States making it a popular destination for photographers, sky gazers, hikers and campers and visitors from all over the world.
I thank a casual meeting one evening with astrophotographer Adam Woodworth who sparked my interest in capturing the night skies. He is one of the foremost photographers, teacher, author and speakers on the subject.
As a result my night photography has taken on a whole new and exciting direction.
April into August in the northern hemisphere and during the week of a new moon is the best time in the northern hemisphere to view the Milky Way.
The image shown was taken along coastal Trescott, Maine,
mid July 2018 with the Milky way moving from south to south westerly in the sky.
Marty's Down East Maine Collection focuses on seascapes and landscapes, lighthouses, nautical themes, dense fogs, ocean tides, working fishing boats, quaint harbors, nature & wildlife, and many other subjects in and around this beautiful unexploited area of New England known as down east Maine may be seen at;
