Arriving hours early doesn't always assure excellent light conditions. Often luck puts you in the right place at an opportune moment.
Such was the case when I arrived hours before dawn to find West Quoddy Head Lighthouse back lit by the running lights of a distant fleet of fishing boats in the Gulf of Maine..
I awaited an ideal moment when the lighthouse structure was silhouetted in a hallo of bright light.
A long exposure allowed star trails to expose across the late night sky.
Taken at Quoddy Head State Park the easternmost peninsula on the United States mainland, Lubec, Maine.
