Description
Maine is known for its rugged bold coast and its many hidden harbors which allow safe anchorage.
There are times though when public anchoring space is not available or fishermen prefer out of the way mooring locations nearby.
Boat owners can take advantage of Maine's many protected coves and inlets. Insignificant rock outcrops can offer security and shelter from exposure to heavy incoming seas, winds and strong tidal currents.
The lobster boats here are moored inside an exposed rock ledge at remote Wallace Cove in Lubec at a place known as Bailey's Mistake in what is quintessentially down east Maine.
This image is part of an ongoing pictorial series portraying down east Maine.
