Twisted and gnarled shallow rooted balsam and white spruce stand hardy in their battle with the the wind, fog and salt spray on the high coastal cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Maine/Bay of Fundy waters at Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec, Maine. Characteristic in appearance these arboreal warriors remain standing, some winning some losing their fight to survive in the harsh environment on this the most eastern peninsula on the United States mainland.
