Description
My early visiting Robin Red Breast has been surviving winter on a steady diet of rotten apples from my tree for a month now. (10 to 12 dozen consumed)
Snow is forecast again in 2 days and Spring is several weeks off up here in Maine.
Today the Robin was eating fallen fruit under the tree knowing they will be covered over if it snows thus conserving the fruit still hanging. (2 dozen or so now left)
Natures creatures are smarter than we realize.
For my little feathered friend a worm would be a welcome change, for sure.
I've been told earth worms taste like bacon mmmmmm
I don't know,...and I never will,...not my kind of protein.
When the ground thaws and the green grass returns,....I'm betting this bird will not be going near another apple for a long time.
1/500 sec at f5.6, ISO 800, manual mode w/ 500mm on a tripod.
This image is from an ongoing series on my home page portraying this little robin and his antics in my apple tree
