Now dismantled, this decaying hand crafted diorama was a surviving remnant of a once prospering artisan gift shop.
A wooden trolley car, a caricature figure sitting on a bed, a red fire engine, several upright books, painstakingly crafted into a colorful door eave, long since deteriorated, its paint faded and peeling slowly succumbing to the elements.
There's more happening in this image than meets the eye though, there's a story about a once optimistic shop owner, a story about a gift shop falling on hard times, a shop owner whose dream failed to materialize here in Lubec, Maine.
If you look closely below the fire truck there is a signature. Is it of a hired artisan who tediously fabricated this eave work or is it maybe the proprietor who was a talented artisan himself?
