Description
The fishing boat "Two Girls" heading into home port after a long day of working the ocean waters along the bold coast of down east Maine.
Gulls swarm and follow close by awaiting discarded scraps of bait fish or unwanted catch.
The sternman seen behind the pilot house utiliizes the return trip to clean up the boat, stow away gear, wash down the deck and work area,...and overall tidying up assuring the boats readiness for next departure.
The captain and crew of these fishing boats often leave their moorings in early morning darkness to work long hours hauling in strings of lobster traps from the ocean floor, harvest the catch, rebait the traps then reset them into the cold ocean waters. Hard work and long hours for sure, a lifestyle on the ocean, chancing the outdoor elements, tides, currents, fog and all that nature can throw at them,....but know that few,...if any would ever trade this independent lifestyle for anything else,..this life is in their blood.
Image captured from Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec, Maine looking out into the Gulf of Maine.
This image is part of my gallery ongoing pictorial series portraying down east Maine's fleet of fishing boats by Marty Saccone.
