Description
Late afternoon sun sidelights a turquoise lobster boat at mooring, its rippling reflection on the shadowed waters of a hidden coastal inlet in Down East Sorrento, Maine.
A common sight along coastal Maine is its multitude of colorful and unique fishing boats, many hand crafted one of a kind designs built by the resourceful fishermen themselves.
Boats can range from modified or salvaged vessels converted to unique hand built ones, each fulfilling the fisherman's basic needs.
Foremost requirements are practicality, durability and shelter from the elements.
Helping to limit prohibitive costs, adaptations of on hand materials are often incorporated foregoing unnecessary aesthetics in the process.
These boats work hard and must be dependable enduring hard use throughout the year in a tough environment that's just as demanding on the fishermen themselves.
