Description
Now but a memory,...McCurdy's pickling and brining shed (far structure) was situated along Lubec narrows waterway has been a long standing historic landmark.
It is on the National Registry of Historic Places, once part of the immense sardine and smoked herring industry heyday that lasted from the 1880's well into the 1980's here in Lubec, Maine
On January 4, 2018 a coastal blizzard took down this 110 year old waterfront landmark which was a tourist destination for almost as many years as it stood.
Two adjacent buildings survived the devastating storm now all that remains at this historic smoked herring processing factory location.
As photographers we are sometimes unknowingly historians capturing
the last fleeting images of subjects now lost to obscurity.
