Description
To have everything come together in an image of rough seas is not as easy as it might appear. The considerations involved,...for example,...are,.timing of the high tide coinciding with rough sea conditions, selecting a proper vantage point, having sunlight occur at the proper time (overcast light produces flat colorless images), successfully dealing with strong winds while using a tripod, simultaneous use of very slow camera shutter speeds to convey the desired dramatic bursts of water spray in the final image, dealing with the constant spew of ocean salt water spray on myself and my equipment, taking hundreds of images, many discarded to achieve just one or two particular pleasing
compositions, creating a well exposed image that will correctly process and print with the desired level of detail, performing all of this within a short window of time as conditions constantly change, achieving an interesting perspective thru selection of the correct lens or lenses,...and lastly,...knowing that success is not guaranteed or a given while attempting to pull all these variables together for the time and effort I put into it.
On this day, 8 to 12 foot seas were correctly forecast, high tide occurred early when light was to be favorable and an early morning storm front was expected to break up and depart assuring clear skies at the perfect time.
From many past experiences I have learned that preperation and being at a location does NOT assure favorable results......
you have to be there even when things go awry,.....but everything did came together on this morning shoot,...the rewarding and exhilerating experience I optimistically hoped for,....materialized perfectly.
