Description
West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is truly a beacon in the night looking out over the Bay of Fundy/Gulf of Maine where extreme tides, treacherous currents, precarious rock outcrops and dense fogs are a constant. Located at the easternmost peninsula on the United States mainland at Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec, Maine.
The lighthouse was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson and first built in 1808. The present tower structure being built in 1858 was staffed by resident lightkeepers until 1988 when the U.S. Coast Guard automated the light.
Many additional renditions of West Quoddy Head Lighthouse are available for viewing at marty-saccone.pixels.com as well as a complete gallery portfolio of coastal Down East Maine fine art photography by Marty Saccone.
